Are Your Stories Working for You or Against You?

Reflecting on how the stories we hear, and share shape our lives and perceptions.

We earthlings do like our stories; they make us feel like we’re right there, experiencing the event firsthand.

When watching a movie, we lose sight of our current reality and are absorbed by the story on the screen. Most of the time, we’re so into it that our problems just fade away.

It’s a great escape. Our thinking mind is parked at the theater or couch and plugs into the story.

Stories —

We like to read them,

Watch them, and hear them

On our devices or live in person.

Hearing a story from a friend or on the big screen,

We hear stories from friends over meals while listening to the radio, catching the latest news, chatting with neighbors in the courtyard, in elevators, and whenever we’re stuck waiting in line.

We’re constantly surrounded by stories.

Sometimes we hear tragic stories, other times people share fears and beliefs, occasionally you’ll hear something light and funny, and often it’s just gossip.

Stories can be catastrophic, gloomy, deep, relatable, inspiring, memorable, and emotional. Stories evoke a range of emotions and responses.

True or not, stories affect us in many ways
