Finding Focus Amidst Distractions 

Sharpening our focus to enhance work, relationships, and well-being

These new glasses, which I bought for working on the computer, are a distraction. Even though they don’t have a frame, I can still see the glass while I type.

It feels like a mindfulness challenge, testing my ability to stay present — can I focus on writing without getting sidetracked by the glass?

The skill of blocking out certain aspects of our experience and focusing intently on the task at hand is often overlooked.

Mindfulness is all about attention. 

As Jon Kabat-Zinn puts it, “Mindfulness is paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and nonjudgmentally.”

Paying attention to the present moment involves blocking out internal and external noise, letting it drift into the background while we focus intently on what we’re doing.

The last time I was in an MRI machine, I was eight years younger and terrified.
