Understanding Non-Self

One of the most liberating concepts in Buddhism is that of non-self, anattā (Pāli) or anātman (Sanskrit), which implies that an individual has no permanent self or essence.

At first, this can come across as a delusional thought since we are significantly attached to “I,” “me,” and “mine,” which has been reinforced throughout our youth. As we grow older, we cling to our personas, stories, and achievements, not to mention our youthful bodies, which inevitably age.
