Perfectly Imperfect: Letting go of impossible standards

I heard this quote recently in Pema Chödrön’s Bodhisattva Mind on Audible:

“Lower your standards and relax as it is.”

I realized how often my own standards are — especially for how I think I should act — have kept me from feeling at peace.

The constant pressure to meet these expectations creates tension and judgment, both toward myself and others. And honestly? It’s exhausting.

But when I let go, even a little, everything shifts. Lowering those impossible standards doesn’t mean giving up — it just makes room for imperfection, for breathing, for living. It helps me see both myself and others with more kindness.

What would it feel like to make space for imperfection — not just in yourself, but in others too?
