New Year, New You?

— or perhaps every moment is an opportunity to rediscover yourself.

New year, new you — or perhaps every moment is an opportunity to rediscover yourself. To uncover the layers of persona, beliefs, and protective mechanisms, to deprogram and release the habits and patterns that no longer serve you.

From our infancy, we are taught to fear stepping from the comfort zone into the unknown. Birth itself is a profound metaphor: once cuddled in the safety of the womb, warm and protected, we outgrow that space. The lack of room, the dwindling oxygen — it all propels us toward a whirlwind of change. That first breath is a dramatic leap into the unknown. We cry, startled by the transition, but that cry is the sound of life itself. A baby that doesn’t cry is met with concern because crying — this natural response — is a sign of being alive.

Life, in essence, is a series of rebirths. We are constantly birthing ourselves anew, leaving behind the comfort zones we once relied upon for safety, and stepping into larger, unknown spaces. We are fearful but the belief that what lies ahead will ultimately be better carries us forward.

These rebirths are moments of awakening, if we allow them to be.

At some point, we wake up and recognize that the personas we’ve been wearing — the stories we’ve been living — no longer fit. These beliefs, habits, and patterns were adopted from family, society, culture, and past experiences. While they once served to protect and guide us, they may no longer align with who we are becoming. And so, we’re propelled once again from what feels familiar into something new.

Life is a series of choices. Each choice leads to another, and then another, forming a path that is uniquely yours. There’s no “right” choice, only the choice you are meant to make in the moment. And even when you slam into a wall and realize a particular direction isn’t working, it’s still part of the journey. The detours — they’re all part of the right path.

I share this as I prepare to take my own leap into the unknown, leaving behind a familiar comfort zone. I don’t know what awaits me on the other side, and what I leave behind will lose its significance the moment I step forward. All I can carry with me is my intention: to approach life with love, kindness, patience, and peace.

And so, I leap — surrendering to what is, trusting that everything is unfolding with divine purpose and for the highest good. It is this trust that keeps me steady, helps me move without fear, and allows me to embrace what lies ahead.

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind”. Romans 12:2
